Writer, freelance editor, teacher, visual artist. A.B., Biology, Harvard College, 1980; Graduate Certificate, Science Communication, UC Santa Cruz, 1985. Member UCSC Writing Program faculty from 1985-2001. Retired from UCSC in 2007; recalled periodically to teach in Environmental Studies on a course-by-course basis. Hired on contract by UCSC Library Regional History Project, 2008-present, to conduct interviews and editing for documentation of the history of Central Coast organic farming & sustainable agriculture. Former Board member, ACLU-Santa Cruz and the Natural History Network (national nonprofit promoting natural history practice and education).

Nonfiction writing; science journalism; editing; natural history field journals.

Science and environmental writing; journalism; expository writing; nature literature; the field journal as literary, artistic, scientific, & spiritual practice.
