Dr. Richard Roper, trumpet, serves on the music faculties of UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, West Valley College, and College of San Mateo. In addition, he has held previous positions on the music faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College, University of Maine and California State University Stanislaus. He currently serves as the Director of the El Camino Wind Orchestra. Richard holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Yale School of Music, and the University of Maryland. As a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar, he spent a year studying and performing in Paris.
Richard has performed with many Northern California ensembles including Symphony San José, Opera San José, Santa Cruz Symphony, Lamplighters, Monterey Symphony, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, Oakland Symphony, Monteverdi Brass, and the Mendocino Festival Orchestra. His arrangements and editions of early music for brass are available through Charles Colin, Cherry Music, and BVD Press. In addition, Richard has studied and performed at the Aspen Music festival, the Music Academy of the West, and the Norfolk Chamber Music festival. His teachers are Antoine Curé, Allan Dean, James Dooley, Glenn Fischthal, Chris Gekker, Mario Guarneri, and Raymond Mase.
