Michael Tassio is the Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Innovation for the Division of Academic Affairs. In this role, he partners with educator leaders and administrators to support the strategic development of courses and programs, the ethical integration of educational technologies including artificial intelligencein teaching and learning, and he contributes to the leadership team for the Teaching and Learning Center. In these roles, he seeks to support the faculty in their efforts to drive all forms of innovation in education. Michael co-chairs the Artificial Intelligence Council, the Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning advisory committee, the Joint Senate-Administration Committee on Climate Teaching, and the UC Centers for Teaching and Learning Working Group of Artificial Intelligence. 

 

Michael has been a member of the UC Santa Cruz teaching and learning community since 2001, when he joined the campus as an undergraduate transfer student majoring in philosophy and cultural anthropology. Since then, he has served in a variety of academic and staff positions, including as a lecturer at Stevenson College, as an analyst with the Academic Senate, and as a program coordinator for The Humanities Institute. Michael was the director for Online Education, which following the COVID-19 pandemic was merged with the Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning to form the Teaching and Learning Center.
