Critical Race and Ethnic Studies

As a recently hired Assistant Professor in the Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz, I will teach courses on Indigenous politics, settler colonialism, intersectionality, popular culture, and decolonizing methodologies.  My research is comparative and relational, focusing on Kanaka Maoli political thought and praxis as well as Indigenous social movements beyond Hawaiʻi and Oceania.  Some of my other research interests include Indigenous critical theory, Native feminist theories, postcolonial studies, critical race & ethnic studies, gender studies, and science and technology studies.  My book manuscript examines the politics and poetics of Kanaka ʻŌiwi struggle to protect Mauna a Wākea and the movement to stop construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope atop the mountain summit.
