Critical Race and Ethnic Studies

I teach courses on Indigenous politics, settler colonial studies, power & knowledege, cultural studies, imperialism & militarism, and decolonial & intersectional methodologies.  My research is comparative & relational, focusing mainly on Kanaka Maoli political thought and praxis as well as Indigenous & decolonial social movements beyond Hawaiʻi and Oceania.  Some of my other research interests include critical Indigenous studies, Native feminist theories, postcolonial studies, critical race & ethnic studies, gender & sexuality studies, and science & technology studies.  My book manuscript examines the politics and poetics of Kanaka ʻŌiwi struggle to protect Mauna a Wākea and the movement to stop construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope atop the Hawaiʻi Island mountain summit.
