I am a historian and digital humanist. In my work in the University Library Center for Digital Scholarship, I support students and faculty who seek to engage digital methods in their teaching, research, or learning. My areas of expertise are digital mapping / GIS, podcasting, and web-based storytelling. My research interests include local and public history as well as the history of consumer data in American advertising, from the industry's earliest days in the 1840s to the rise of the internet.

I hold a PhD in History from Indiana University, Bloomington, where I also earned a Graduate Certificate in Digital Arts and Humanities.

I was the lead producer of the documentary podcast Stories from the Epicenter, which explored the impacts of the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake on Santa Cruz County.

I am a consulting editor for the American Historical Review and serve as host and senior producer the journal's podcast History in Focus.
