Chris has been involved in technical/creative professions for most of his life. Starting his university studies in pure Math he graduated as an architect, then retrained as a furniture maker and worked for ten years as an independent designer/maker in Scotland. Moving to the US in 1989 he added a Master’s in product design and subsequently pursued a successful design career in North Carolina and California before being hired by Sun Microsystems as a senior digital modeler and animator. In 2002, after two years at Sun, he founded Studio Cruz, an independent design and visualization studio.

StudioCruz (www.studiocruz.com) develops images, digital models, and animations for clients including Google, Intel, Microsoft, Boeing, and the US Navy. Other clients range from independent inventors and artists to attorneys, engineers, and planners. Chris also works as an expert witness in the California court system for litigation involving complex topography and terrain. In addition to UCSC, he teaches 2D and 3D animation at Cabrillo College as well as laser cutting, CNC routing, and 3D printing in their digital fabrication facility.
