Art Department

Courtney Scruggs is a graduate from the University of California, Santa Cruz where she focused primarily on bronze casting. Although she started out as a painter, she learned several types of printmaking, pastel drawing, watercolors, ceramics, sculpting, woodworking, fabrication, welding, bronze casting, and both abstract and commercial photography. She is influenced by her connection to her community and the immense depth of inspiration drawn from sailing and the ocean. She has worked in Continuing Lecturer Sean Monaghan’s “Bronze Works” studio for ten years, created her own arts small business, Whatknot Studios, taught sailing lessons and was the operations manager for Chardonnay Sailing Charters, among many other accomplishments. She is a practicing artist and has participated in Santa Cruz County Open Studios, as well as many other art exhibitions and festivals. Courtney brings a broad skill set in many art techniques and processes to this position. You can find her work at whatknotstudios.com
