Hi! I am Alyssa Gomes and I am serving as the Disability Resource Center's Exam Services Coordinator. As someone who is hard-of-hearing, my passion has been increasing accessibility to those with disabilities. With over 8 years of experience advocating for children with disabilities in the K-12 setting, I bring a collaborative problem-solving mindset to meet the needs of students and faculty alike.

I received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I enjoy using data to analyze business metrics and improve systems processes. While I love the satisfaction of creating graphs and tables to represent data, my passion really lies in working with people. I received my Master's of Arts in Teaching, with a Special Education focus, from the University of Washington in Seattle. I taught Special Education for over 5 years and helped advance inclusionary practices across schools and special education programs. I believe that education is the key to equity and accessibility. By teaching others about inclusion, accommodations and best practices to support those with disabilities, we can make real change.

I am looking forward to collaborating and being part of a great team here at the UCSC Disability Resource Center. As a way to support our collaboration, please be sure to face me when speaking, as I rely heavily on lip reading. Other ways to support my accessibility are including closed captioning on virtual meetings, leveraging written communication (email, Slack and Google Chat are great!) and enunciating clearly. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you have!
