Daniel Fister is a Lecturer for Merrill College. He earned his PhD in Ethnomusicology and Graduate Certificate in American Culture Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. While there, he was also a Lynne Cooper Harvey Fellow in American Culture Studies, an affiliate scholar with the Center for Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Equity, and he earned a Professional Development in Teaching Certificate. Daniel's research focuses on music and race. His dissertation examined scholastic a cappella groups in the United States and the construction of race, specifically whiteness, in the ideologies, social structures, policies, and sounds of the practice. He has won awards and fellowships from the Society for American Music, the Society for Ethnomusicology, and Washington University in St. Louis. From 2019–22 he was an editorial assistant for the journal American Music.
